We went to the specialist today and after taking pictures of the head, heart, toes, arms, and more, we found out that we are having a boy. The doctor said that he is growing well and everything looks normal. He did point out a little white spec on the heart. He said that this is a calcium deposit that in a few studies was said to be an increased risk of Downs Syndrome. However, many more studies have not shown a link at all. He then told us that the results of the neck measurements last time and my blood work said the risk of us having a child with Downs is 1 in 4200. He said there were no other markers or signs and he wasn't really worried about it. He said we could have an amniocentesis to know for sure but we decided at this point that there really weren't enough signs to warrant that.
As for my blood pressure, it was fine. He confirmed my medicine and made sure I had a back up plan "just in case" one day I come in and he tells me I can't go back to work. For now, we are glad I am healthy and so is the baby. As long as that continues, we won't have to worry.
I go back to my regular OB on January 14th for another ultrasound and appointment. I will see the specialist again on the 30th. We went looking for cribs, gliders, and bedding today. We plan on registering within the next couple of weeks--lots to think about.
The baby is about the size of a turnip now. Since Blake and I rely on updates from http://www.babycenter.com/, each week we are given a new fruit or vegetable that the baby is the size of . We jokingly name the baby each week something we would not choose as a real name. Just for laughs, here are our names we have had so far:
Kumquat--no name needed since this was the first time we had heard of this, we thought it was unique enough.
Figaro the fig
Liam the lime
Stewie the shrimp
Liam the lemon(those of you that know Blake know his fascination with the name Liam, which is why it appeared twice:) )
Alvin the apple
Arnie the avocado
Tyrone the turnip
On Sunday he will be the size of a bell pepper.....we will have to think about that one.

Awesome! We knew it! I can totally see you with a boy. So, are you going to reveal names or not? Renee and I were discussing names we think you'd choose. Let us know if you need those suggestions;)
