Happy 1st Birthday Liam--12 Months

Liam turned 1 on June 1st. People ask me if I can believe it, and I really feel like I can. I have gotten so much great time with him over the past year, I really can't ask for more. We celebrated with both sides of our families coming to visit for Memorial Day weekend. We had a great time and I enjoyed the simpleness of just having our immediate family there. Liam ate his cake like a champ and has so many new toys to play with. He is one lucky little boy.

Liam had his 1 year check up on Friday. He is 22 pounds, 2 ounces and 30.25 inches long. The doctor said he looked great. Unfortunately, he remembered the doctor this time and screamed the entire time she or the nurse were in the room. I guess you can't blame him. We are happy to report that his tear ducts seem to be completely healed as well. Liam is transitioning from breastfeeding/bottles to whole milk. I really thought this would be easy because he never has seemed to attached to the bottle or breastfeeding, but I was wrong. We started by mixing the two milks and warming them up. Now we are on to warming the whole milk up and he will drink it in a bottle. I guess it will take a little time but I hope to report soon that he is drinking whole milk from a sippy cup. Liam continues to try new foods but keeps his favorite food groups of fruit and dairy going strong. He is still taking 2 naps a day, which I am happy about, but I know that he will be transitioning to one afternoon nap very soon.

We have really started to see Liam's little brain working this past month. He is pointing at things he wants and trying to communicate with us more. He understands so much. We noticed this first when he brought home a balloon from school and we asked him where his balloon was and he went right to it. Then, Blake told him he needed to go get his PJs on and he looked at his clothes and pulled on them a little. He said "wow" today and says "daddy/dada" all the time for Blake. Mama still comes rarely and mainly when he is tired or fussy. Tonight, Liam was trying to say "fish" and it was pretty funny. I can't wait to hear his little voice. He continues to sign "all done" but I have been a little behind on teaching him many other signs. I hopefully will work with him some more on that soon.

Liam has learned how to crawl up the stairs and is very quick at it. A few times I have forgotten to have the gate up and found Duncan at the bottom of the stairs looking up as Liam is halfway up the stairs already. He is still walking around things but not walking on his own. I think he is getting pretty close.

Liam loves water. Whether he is in the pool, bathtub, or playing with his new water table, he is always splashing and kicking. He also has a lot of fun banging toys together or on the table. He loves his big brother Duncan and smiles every morning when he sees him for the first time. He gets so excited when his Daddy comes home and crawls as quickly as he can to the door. Liam is showing a love of music along with his love for books. He will bounce to the songs and stop what he is doing to listen for a minute. We even think we heard him singing today in the car. Liam has noticed the TV and again, loves the shows that sing. He is mesmerized by the TV though and almost is in a trance when he watches it. This is why his TV watching is very limited.

Liam's personality continues to emerge. He wakes up slowly from naps on his own and does not like to be woken up at all. He is starting to get more upset if he does not get what he wants. He is happy and smiley to most people he sees, especially women and girls. He has a flirty look he tries on most people that interact with him. He also has a "aren't I cute" look that he has used for a few months now to try to get away with things he wants. When we tell him no, he has already learned how to give one of the most fake cries and faces to see if we will budge. After we don't, he either gets more upset or just moves on.

We love our little man and couldn't imagine this past year without him.

Liam can't believe he is already 1!

Liam's "smash" cake

It was a puppy party since we know Liam loves dogs, especially Duncan. The cake had a strong resemblance to Duncan....

Liam on his actual birthday.

He didn't really like the ice cream at first but he ended up eating quite a bit.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Duncan cake!!!! That is just too cute and perfect. A celebration of both your babies and how much they love each other! Everything you describe about Liam's personality sounds SO MUCH like Colton- his love of water, waking up slow from naps, fake crying at such a young age (lol!). . . I can't wait for them to play together- I think they will get along so well. Happy Birthday to Liam!!

That dog cake is amazing. I enjoyed looking at the pics-especially Liam sitting in the yard in a diaper and birthday hat. Those are keepers. ;)
