How have I been feeling??? This seems to be the most common question and the answer is, OK. It could be worse but it could be better. With Liam I was tired but had no nausea or really any other not so good symptoms. With this one, I have been nauseous at times and tired. I have also had trouble sleeping, bad heartburn, and headaches. I am thankful none of this has made me unable to function and over the past week or so it has gotten a little better. I am ready to be myself again and enjoy the beautiful springtime. Overall, I feel like I am getting larger quicker but know that this is common after your first pregnancy so I am trying to remember that.
My doctors visits have gone OK. At 12 weeks I went to my regular office to see a midwife and after several times of trying to find the baby's heartbeat, she was not able to. I stayed pretty calm as I was taken to have an ultrasound. As soon as they pulled it up, I could see the baby was moving a lot and the heart rate was 166. I was relieved but pretty shaky when I got to the car after my appointment. Later that day, I went to the specialist for a normal set of tests and another ultrasound. It is crazy how much the baby had grown since my 8 week appointment and how active he or she was. The appointment went just fine and we are thankful for the continued good health of the baby and myself. We go back to the regular doctor on April 27 and the specialist on May 6 to find out if the baby is a boy or girl!!! We vote for girl now but who knows...we will see soon. When we ask Liam what he wants, he goes back and forth between baby brother, baby sister, and puppy.
Many of you know that I have chronic high blood pressure. I have been on medicine for the past 4 years. My pregnancy with Liam was great but was considered high risk, as will this one. This means we get lots of extra care, appointments, and ultrasounds. We are praying for another healthy pregnancy and delivery for all and are not super worried but we will be watched closely in the mean time.
We can't believe how fast these weeks have gone. With the business of life and another little one running around, it seems this new baby will be here before we know it. We are anxious at the thought of two little ones to care for but feel so blessed and thankful for our growing family.
