Marlo turned 1 on October 5, 2012. At her 1 year check up she weighted 23 pounds 10 ounces and was 30 inches long. This put her in around the 85th percentile for weight and height. Marlo was so active during the appointment that the doctor commented on how I must be exhausted chasing her around. I think she is just a normal active and curious 1 year old.
Marlo is pushing walking toys around and can stand on her own but does not go anywhere. She has started to climb a lot more as well. Marlo understands things now, which is one of my favorite things to watch happen. Before she goes to bed, I will say, "let's get a book" and she points to them. As far as talking, Marlo will say a solid 'Da" sound or "Do" sound a lot but has different ways of saying it for things, like Duncan. She will say "hi, woo woo (firetruck), Dada, Mama, and what sounds like leo, leo, leo." We really think she is trying to say Liam here but she says it so much more than that, so we aren't quite sure. Marlo also has her two top teeth breaking through, which has made her pretty uncomfortable.
As for food, Marlo continues to eat what we eat. She is fully weaned from nursing and does not particularly like milk, at all. She will take it warm in a bottle, but I do not plan on keeping that up longterm. We give her a sippy cup of milk at meals and one of water the rest of the day. She eats 3 meals a day with one or two snacks in there and usually 1 bottle of milk. I want to make sure she gets enough fluids. Her favorite foods continue to be broccoli, most fruits, and cheese. Marlo is a great dinner eater but is not too keen on many breakfast foods. This reminds me of Blake. Liam and I could eat breakfast all day:)
Marlo is wearing 12-18 month or 18 month clothing with room to grow. She wears a size 5 shoe. She continues to take two naps a day and sleep from 7pm to 7 or 7:30am. She continues to be a cuddler before bed and I am taking full advantage of every night of it. I do not rock her to sleep but I do hold her and sing to her as long as she will let me.
As far as Marlo's favorite things to do, she loves to ride around in the cozy coupe fire truck. She will spend a long time in there. She also loves her dolls. It is crazy to me how innate nurturing is for girls. Liam didn't hold or hug his stuffed animals much except his prized monkey. Marlo loves holding and hugging on any stuffed animal or doll. She especially loves her baby Stella and putting her pacifier on and off. Marlo enjoys playing in her new kitchen as well. She will open and shut the doors over and over. Due to my love of baking and cooking, I have been waiting to buy this kitchen since she was born. Liam definitely enjoys it too. Marlo also likes books and music or musical instruments. She is finally sitting longer to read a short book to her. We still have to make sure it is a board book though, the girl is pretty rough on any other books.
We don't remember life before Marlo and are so thankful for a happy, healthy baby girl. We can't wait to watch her personality come out and hear her little voice more and more. She is definitely a huge blessing in our lives.
starting the day off with Dutch Monkey, our favorite doughnut place...Liam thought it would be exactly where Marlo would want to go. She didn't eat much but thoroughly enjoyed sitting at this table like a big girl.
