San Francisco

For our 10 year anniversary, Blake and I took a trip we had been talking about for many years to San Francisco and Napa, California.  We were lucky enough to have Blake's parents come down to babysit while we went on our 8 day trip.  To say that it was hard to leave the kids and be gone from them would be very true but I would not have traded our time together for anything.

While in San Francisco, we started off by biking across the Golden Gate bridge and into Saucilito for lunch, then took a ferry back.  During the bike ride over, we also went to Fort Point, at the base of the bridge.  It was very interesting and was a beautiful, historic building.  Next, we did a night tour of Alcatraz. I was fascinated by all the information we heard and the best part was the hospital floor that only is open to the night tours.  Most of the rooms are dark and pretty eery if you think about all the people that were in them.  The next day we went to Muir Woods to see the giant redwood trees.  The drive was beautiful and the trail and hike at the park was amazing.  The only problem was, the trail we took kept saying "ocean view" and when we got up there, well....if you looked really hard, you could see the ocean but it was a long hike for that little sliver of water we saw.  Afterwards, we enjoyed lunch in the "little Italy" area of San Francisco.  We had delicious pizza at Caffe Baonecci.   That night we went out to a nice dinner at a restaurant called Farallon.  It was delicious and started my love affair with wine from the Stags Leap area of Napa.  The next day we went on a Segway tour of the city.  It was a great way to see residential areas in the city as well as some of the other land marks we hadn't seen already.  One thing we learned was that when you are on a Segway, you are a tourist attraction in and of itself.  So many people were pointing at us.  The Segway was super easy to operate.  I would highly recommend it.  The day we went, it was extremely foggy and you couldn't even see the Golden Gate Bridge from the side of the water.  I was surprised that the fog stuck around for so long.  After our tour, we headed to Fisherman's Warf for some yummy clam chowder, crab sandwiches and shrimp.  After heading over to Pier 39 to see the sea lions, (or should I say smell them...it was one of the worst smells I have ever smelled) we headed to Napa.  We were ready for all the touristy sight seeing to come to an end and to enjoy some relaxation...and wine:)

pictures are a little out of order but you should get the idea..
