At the end of June, we were having small group at our house one Tuesday night and around 8:30/9:00 we heard a crash come from Liam's room. Blake ran upstairs to see what happened and yelled down "he's bleeding!!" I ran upstairs and when we cleaned up the blood and we saw a cut on Liam's right eyelid. I could tell by looking at it that stitches were probably going to happen but luckily, our friend, Lauren was there and is a nurse and took a look. She confirmed we should take him to get stitches. So since it was 5 minutes before the urgent care right by our house closed, we decided to head to the children's hospital ER closer to Atlanta. Luckily, our friend Brian was at our house as well, and stayed with Marlo so we didn't have to wake her up and take her with us. Blake drove like a race car driver the whole way there but luckily Liam was doing just fine. The bleeding had stopped quickly and we were thankful for that. After 3-4 hours at he ER, we were on our way home with 3 stitches in Liam's eyelid. Liam was a complete rock star through the whole thing. They put some numbing gel on the eyelid before they did the stitches and he never even flinched while the doctor was putting them in. In fact he wanted to watch!! At one point a nurse came in prepared to hold Liam down, since most kids need this and was shocked to see our calm little boy. They even said they often have to give some calming drugs to the poor kids. Nobody could believe how well he did. I have to say, with my queezy stomach when it comes to things like this, I definitely didn't watch most of the time. We were very proud of our brave boy. He ended the ER trip with a blue popsicle and all was good in Liam's world.
All that being said, we have no idea to this day what he hit. The doctor said it doesn't have to be anything sharp because that area of the eye with the bone where it is, splits open easily. Liam said he tripped over his blanket and fell. While he was supposed to be sleeping, we think he was playing around in his room and did trip over the blanket on the floor. He probably hit the side of the bed or something on the floor. We will never know.
