March 15, 2009--28 weeks

Sunday marks 28 weeks. I am in the third trimester and can't believe it. Our little boy now weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of his head to his heels. He can blink his eyes, which now sport lashes. With his eyesight developing, he may be able to see the light that filters in through the womb. He's also developing billions of neurons in his brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

This past week I had a couple of days where I just didn't feel well. I was crampy and my fingers and feet swelled a little. I wasn't sure if I should worry or not, but I just took a couple days off from the gym and sat down a lot more during the day until Friday when I was going to my doctor's appointment. I talked with Dr. St. Louis, my OB, and she said all of this is normal. She said I can keep working out, but if I don't feel well, don't go that day. She also said that I may need to shorten the length or cut the intensity a little depending on how I feel. I need to keep working out to help my blood pressure and just to feel good so it is a fine balance. I also asked her about the likelihood of me needing to get off my feet the last month or so. She said as long as my blood pressure stays in the normal range it has been, I can work all the way to the end of my pregnancy. I am not sure if this is good news or not since I have 40 sick days built up, but I would much rather be healthy and not use my sick days than be put on bed rest because something is wrong. I start going ever two weeks now to the doctor.

We went to our second class today. It was an infant/child CPR and first aid class. While it is scary to think that the baby could stop breathing or choke, it is comforting to have the information to be prepared in case there is an emergency. We have our hospital tour in a couple of weeks and then I think we are done. We actually saw one of the couples from last week's class there. They were the ones who's baby is due in 3 weeks. They thought we were really on top of things. We thought they were cutting it pretty close. Either way, it worked out for both of us to be there, which is all that matters.

Our little guy is moving so much. I really love this part of pregnancy. It is crazy to feel something move across my stomach. I still don't know what I am feeling but soon we should be able to see it too.

Dawn, this past weekend I was at the Hearts at Home conference in BN. I was in a session and there was this girl who looked exacly like you and I thought perhaps it was your sister. I have no clue what you sister is up to nor where she lives, but I went up to her and guess what; you have a "twin". She looked just like you and to make matters even more embarassing on my part, I went to high sschool with her and she recognized me right away! Amazing how God works! Glad all is well with you.
