March 8, 2009--27 Weeks

Today I am 27 weeks pregnant. Our little boy is around 2 pounds and is about the size of a head of cauliflower. He is around 14-15 inches long stretched out. I am heading into my 3rd trimester, which is crazy to think about. I am feeling our little guy move a lot. Yesterday, I swear I felt an elbow or something. I can't really tell what it was, but it was more than a flutter or kick. I have been pretty uncomfortable, especially at night. I feel like my stomach is just stretching and stretching. I know this is just the beginning so I am trying to take it all in stride. I have definitely grown since my last belly pic. You will see below.

Saturday we went to our first class. It was "breastfeeding for couples." My doctor recommended this class and an infant CPR/first aid class, which we are going to next week. We felt like overachievers when we got there and all of the couples were due in April and here we are, not due until June. I just kept thinking, Wow, they are cutting it close. Most of them could have their babies any day. Blake was not excited to go to the class but it was the only class that fit into our schedule and was in the location we wanted so I had to pick the couples one instead of one just for me. In the end, I was happy he went. It was nice to know that while I was getting so much information all at once, at least he was hearing it too so one of us will hopefully remember what to do when the time comes. We officially decided that we do not want visitors at the hospital, except family. Sorry if that offends anyone, I just would rather have visitors once I get home.

We spent today unpacking and washing all of the baby's new things. We found some bins for the bookshelf and now just have to find pictures for the wall, a hamper, and possible a rug. I haven't decided if we will put up any curtains or valances.

Friday I go to my regular OB doctor for my glucose test and I am hoping to also talk to her about the likelihood of my taking the last month off before my due date. I need to fill out the paperwork and be ready just in case but as of now, I would like to be proactive and not push it when I get to that point. I really need to be at school through our standardized testing, which is the third week in April. After that, I would be OK if I needed to stop working and get off my feet.

Here is me at 27 weeks.

Dawn - I think it's super important that Blake goes to the classes. Joel helped a ton with Stella breastfeeding b/c she wouldn't latch on. We had to use a nipple shield for a few wks, but thanks to Joel's perseverance, she was great after that. I hear you on the visitors. We had a TON the entire time in the hospital, and it was stressful trying to get to know Stella and how to be a parent with constant viewers. It'll be nice to just have my family and maybe Joel's there this time! You look great!

How precious! I so wish I could see you in person now and sneak in as "family" when he's born. This is one of the toughest things about being in grad school and teaching right now-no overlapping breaks.

You are so cute! You really are just all baby and nothing else. Glad everything is good and smart idea on the no visitors at the hospital. ;) 'Course I can say that because I count as family!
